In a case of hairy cell leukemia, Gordona aurantiaca (Rhodococcus aurantiacus) was isolated from cerebrospinal fluid as the pathogen responsible for lethal infection of the central nervous system. The pathogen had been isolated previously from one case of pulmonary infection process only.

We report the first case of endocarditis caused by a Gordonia species genetically related to G. sputi but exhibiting some atypical biochemical features in a 31-year-old woman with a central venous catheter. This unusual pathogen may be a new cause of opportunistic infections in patients with severe underlying diseases.

Serratia plymuthica was isolated from the blood and from a central venous catheter tip in a 54-year-old man with alcoholic cirrhosis and clinical signs of sepsis. This was the seventh reported isolate of S. plymuthica from a clinical specimen and the first in which the organism was clearly a significant pathogen.
